Default A/c belt help

i lost my AC belt on the way home in traffic the other...bought a new one...replaced it...and now...when i turn on the car to test it the belt squeaks and starts to smoke...so next i tightened the belt and when i turn it on it bogs down the car...i cant find middle ground...any help would be nice...my friend thinks the clutch in the AC might be bad...its a D16Y7 and the belt i am using is a goodyear...any ideas too loose and it spins and smokes...too tight and it bogs down the engine...

it was a 104 here today...i need my AC back...thanks...

if it squeaks while u have ur a/c on it might be indication that ur a/c compressor might be goin bad or not enough oil in there if leave on too much it might seize and gonna have to buy a new one. mine does the same thing but i didnt use a/c so havent replace it yet good luck

Try to turn the clutch plate on the compressor (next to the pulley) by hand with the engine off. Should turn fairly easily. If it is stuck, the compressor is bad.

If the compressor is bad but it's clutch is OK, then the pulley will spin free when the engine isn't running. If that's the case, you have to watch it while it's running to figure out anything more.

It sounds like the compresor is beginning to seize up, creating excessive drag when it's clutch engages. That makes the belt slide & itbogs down the engine.

Sounds like aworn outcompressor. Has all the symptoms. I'd take it to a shop and have them recover and evacuate the system and replace the accumulator and compressor. (cools a lot better if it has a new accumulator) then get the compressor changed out, and recharge it. only downside is that its going to be expensive, but.. in 104 degree heat.. is it worth it? i'd say!
