Default A/C button missing

dont know if this is the best place to post this but here it goes.
my 96 civic ex is missing the A/C button but i can still push the black piece that the button pushes but the green light doesnt come on.
does the button make a difference or is my light just burnt out.
and i cant tell a difference anytime i push it so it has to be the button or somethin just in the A/C.

thanks

Do you have all the A/C hardware under the hood? All the control panels have an A/C button but if the rest of the system is not installed the button is covered with a blank plate.

The green light is a LED so it's really unlikely to burn out. Possibly the button switch is broken or the solder is cracked. The light has a separate circuit it should light up regardless of the condition of the rest of the system.

Due to the temperature and pressure controls, the A/C probably will not engage if the outside temperature is less than about 50 F.
