Question camshaft position sensor and starter question

Ok guys, I have a question. I have a stock 2004 civic ex, manual trans, 1.7 vtec. I was driving home today and my car suddenly died. It didn't give me any warning at all. When I got it to the side of the road, I pulled a code of p0340 (camshaft position sensor). I tried to restart the car, but my starter won't engage. So, I guess my question is, can a bad camshaft sensor lock your starter or is it just a really strange coincidence?
