can you clean an o2 sensor?
i have heard you can clean o2 sesors..and heard when they are done they are done no way to clean them. what is the deal??? my check engine light is on so i am going to do some maitance on it... changed spark plugs which was badly needed (pics posted later of the mess on the old plugs) used valve and lifter oil aditive. fuel injector cleaner. installing a new fuel filter tomorrow and would likeo know if there is a certain way to do it or do i just pop it off and pop new one in. but the o2 sensor needs to be replcedi believe. can you clean them. also if i clean it and it ruins, will the car still drive? putting new msd wires on soon, and a aem dry air filter to replace my cai filter. what else should i do for a tuneup? basically i am trying to get my check engine light off and increase fuel economy.
to check the cel, go to an advanced auto parts or auto zone, and get them to use their scanner on your car for free, it will tell you what is wrong with the car. and no, o2 sensors are not like spark plugs, you can't just clean them and replace them, they're very sensitive and quite expensive. and they are bolted into the exhaust system near the cat and exhaust port exit.
