Default car won't start

hey guys was wondering if you can help me out so i can try to fix my car tonight. have a 98' civic DX mt. this morning went to start it. turned the key all the way and heard a click. just one click and it wouldn't start. tried it again and still wouldn't start. checked a couple of the fuses and didn't see any that were broken but not going to rule that out. my dad has a civic as well and we connected our cars together and mine still wouldn't start. interesting thing was nothing in the car worked aka the headlights, brake lights, gauges, radio, but the interior light worked on occassion and so did the beeping noise that sounds when the door is open and the key is in the ignition. when i tryed to start the car those would go off and not come back on for a while, then mysteriously come on again. i'm thinking maybe it is battery but that battery is only a couple of months old. any advice? thanks.

dead alternator maybe? I don't know, I'd take the battery and have it tested

It could be that your battery is not holding a charge. However, if your alternator was not charging the battery you would always have a dead battery. Have the battery tested at an autoparts store, its free and should help to tell you what is really wrong.
