Default catalytic and exhaust manifold, one piece?

On my 96 lx (d16y7), are the exhaust manifold and the catalytic one piece? I'm only finding them sold together, and the aftermarkets are marketed as "two piece design". On the same note, do I have to spring for the (expensive)OEM part to pass emissions, or will the $200 ebay special do the trick?

Yea the OE units are one piecers but the ebay replacement oe style ones should get you past emissions.

ORIGINAL: Impreza WRX

Header->Downpipe->Catalytic Converter. Three pieces on stock.
The Y7's have the cat right off the manifold:

Watch out for the eBay catys because most of them are only test-pipes, thus, they don't do the chemical process a cat does and consequently don't decrease unwanted emmissions. Read the eBay list carefully!!

I paid about 400.00 bucks for my 97 HX from ebay. It was from a Honda dealer in Temecula, CA. There are aftermarket ones available but there are not for Cars with CA emissions. I don't really trust non OEM stuff for CATs if you're going to keep your car for awhile. I heard that don't last as long as OEM because the materials they use.

dealer part around here is about $650

you do need to have one that has the cat converter integral... or a standard header and weld a cat converter into your mid pipe.

magnaflow makes a direct high flow replacement for about $580

I've got a crack on my headers (98 dx w/d16y7) and am just going to replace entire exhaust system with quality performance parts (Megan racing/magnaflow high flow) as it ends up being about $650 for the entire exhaust system that way

Here are a few that I'm looking at:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/96-98...89476767QQrdZ1
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1998-...77378320QQrdZ1
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CA-Ce...72742873QQrdZ1
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-C...89987956QQrdZ1
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/96-97...87630766QQrdZ1

That last one is only $153.00 and claims to have a lifetime warranty. Is this too good to be true?

The car has 165,000miles on it, so sinking $500-650 into an OEM doesn't make alot of sense to me if can avoid it.

One more thing, how difficult of a job is this? I've never worked on exhaust system before. Looks fairly straight forward, but I live in an area with lots of salt on the road, Im worried about stuff falling apart on me. Any thoughts?

I have a 1998 honda civic. I have a crack in my exhaust manifold. The dealer is telling me that I have to replace the manifold and the cat since it is all one piece. Other people tell me that i can just buy the manifold and replace that. How do I know? i really dont feel like spending $500 when i can spend $100? From reading the other forums, I think my honda is the Y7 model. please help
