cd player help

98 civic ex with stock radio and cd player. the other day i was listening to a cd and on the 3rd track it just stopped playing. took cd out, tried another, and another but all that happened was the display shows "CD 0" for a solid 20 seconds then the cd gets spit out. has anyone ever experienced this?
