Default Changing clock spring

Does anyone know how to change a clock spring in a '95 civic DX? I know its somewhere in the steering column have I haven't found any resources or drawings detailing the extent of the job. Please help!

Thanks

Are you talking about the resistance spring on the clock face?... That you can press when the car is off to see the time??

Clock spring allows you to turn the wheel and function the cruise/radio button. It's also part an electrical component of the SRS system (drivers airbag). You'll have to remove the steering wheel and lower dashboard to get to it. I have not removed one from a civic, but you should see a circlular yellow component.

1 first, park your car with the steering wheel as straight as possible and take the key outta the ignition (very important)

2 you'll have to pop off the air-bag (screws in through holes on the rear of wheel)

3 disconnect the electrical connector from the back of the airbag and also for the horn

4 get your 1/2" bar with (17mm?? not sure) socket and undo the bolt holding the steering wheel on

5 mark the steering wheel and the shaft with tippex, so you know how to position it when going back on (so it's not mis-aligned)

6 very carefully, remove the steering wheel by tapping it with your palms on opposite sides, towards you

7now you're looking at the clock spring, round plastic object wrapped right around the shaft
not exactly sure with civics, but clock spring and light/wiper stalks may be all one unit

8 check for an electrical connection going into the back of it, undo and remove unit

don't -

touch airbag contacts in connector (kaboom!)

turn ignition on with airbag removed (srs lamp on)

mess about with the clock spring - take it out, put it down - don't go messing with it (they're
delicate)

hope this helps

how about: removing neg cable from the battery before beginning.
so, one can remove the steering wheel without a steering wheel puller. Interesting !
