Default check fuel cap

I have a 2006 honda civic,,has about 13,000 miles on it.I get a check fuel cap message.I do,cap is on there tight,it clicks once.Still get message it goes away but out of the blue when driving it pops back on.Just wandering if anybody else was getting this message

I don't really know but try and take the negative battery terminal off for like 10 min then put it back on and see it that fixes it.

check your manual. the new civics require you to turn the cap until it clicks a couple of times.

even then your check gas cap message won't go away until a few days of normal driving.

the reasoning behind that is because the vacuum pressure in your fuel system has to build back up.

this is the same reason why you should never fill your gas tank up past the first "click" you hear from the gas pump.

the gas tank needs that air pocket in there to properly regulate fuel flow.

Thanks so much for the info.Would this happen with a 1/2 tank of gas,or when it is cold out side?
