civic brake job help
Howdy all. I have a 99 Civic EX 5 spd. I would like to perform a brake job on this car using Honda parts. I have a Haynes manual for the Civic, but although the textual descriptions are ok (not great, just ok) there are few pictures of the actual brake assemblies.
I've never done a brake job before. I've been told that the discs aren't that bad, but the drums are a pain. With that in mind, I'm seeking a manual - perhaps a copy of the Honda shop manual section that deals with brakes - that has lots of pictures (I'm a visual learner) and detailed how-to instructions.
Can anyone steer me in the right direction? Anyone out there have a copy of the Honda shop manual that can make a copy of that section for me?
Thanks
Mike

im just bloggin i dont know as much too but i believe u should take notes when ur taking the drum breaks out, i saw my friend do one but ... not sure when its time for me to do em but i would say .. take notes remember where everythign go and then when u replace it just do the same thing
I have a '99 Civic also and brakes are one of my strong points. If a pro hasnt told u that u need the drums redone, I wouldnt advise doing them but if u insist on doing them anyway, bring a digital camera so you know exactly where each spring in the drum goes. As for the discs, those are a snap. It will probably take you more time taking the wheel off and putting it back on than it will changing pads. Anyways, anything I can help you with, I am here. Good luck not that u should need any, we are here to help you out in anything u need us for.
fronts are simple, rears are a pain. unless you have rear discs
open both sides and work on one at a time, then you can refer to the other side to see where everything goes. and get a set of drum brake tools. its way easier that way than improvising with pliers and screwdrivers.
and if you cant get the drums off, make sure the e-brake is off. very common mistake.
