brake job + new tires = mushy steering
I have a 1996 civic, manual transmission.
Two of the tires are about a year old, the other two were just replaced and a brake job done.
Now the steering acts like it has when one or the other tire was low, i.e., rather than crisp and precise steering when I turn, the rear wheels now seem to swing slightly wide then correct.
I checked the tire pressure first thing as that's what it felt like, even though it seemed like something the mechanic would get right, and indeed they are ~34 psi which is correct.
Any ideas? My next idea was that in the course of the work some fitting or bolt did not get properly tightened, which is an alarming thought when driving on the freeway.
Thanks.

I don't understand what the problem is. Most of the steering compenents are held together with castle nuts and cotter pins so unless the pins are missing, the nuts won't come out. Check the tie rods to make sure that the castle nut and pin are still intact.

Maybe you went from a 50 series to a 75 series sidewall....that would equal mushy response. Actually we changed tires on the girls car and went with cheapies...man they were horrible. Even she noticed a difference (which is saying something). Last time I buy cheap tires for any car.
