Civic EX How do I replace the Alternator

Default Civic EX How do I replace the Alternator

The car has been shutting off and Auto Zone says I need a new Alternator. How do I replace the alternator? Anyone have any doirections I can follow to replace it. Thanks ...

Most people here will direct you to the factory service manual in .pdf format, available at www.hondatech.info

Look under the Civic section for the manual download. Alternator removal and replacement instructions are included in the manual as well as MANY other useful bits of information. Keep in mind that an alternator can be rebuilt instead of replaced. Might be cheaper.

Be sure to remove the lower alternator mount bracket. Otherwise it's nearly impossible to get the old alternator out.

im not sure what year you have but ronj is right. get those alternator brackets out of the way and put a jack under the car to lift it a tad "makes the cv axles move out of the way a tad to give you more clearence to get the bugger out
