Default Cluster swap

Ok So I did my searching about wanting to install a gauge cluster with a tach on it for the one in mine that lacks the tachometer. I have found that the wiring is already there and is a simple plug and play. What I can't seem to find is what years and models will plug and play. I have a 88 hatchback 4speed with a 1.5l motor. I am not sure of the make of the motor since there seem to be a million different series. Any help is appreciated.

Ok after viewing a few of them on ebay I have came to the conclusion that the 88-89 models will only work, the 90-91 are different and would require soem wire modifications.

you could always just get a tach from like advanced or something instead of doing the wiring for the gauge cluster and you should have like a d15b1 or b2 or something

Thanks, I am trying to keep it pretty stock, but like to have a tach for driving. Supposedly if I use the 88 or 89 cluster it should bolt right up and already have the wires right there ready to plug in.

There IS a difference betwen automatics and standards. I actually just went to the wreckers and bought on and plugged it into the harness and it worked perfectly. I did NOT even check the year (other than it was in the 88-91 group). Maybe it was just a stroke of luck? I also like having a tach. Good luck with your car.

as long as it is an 88-91 gauge cluster it will plug and play, same goes with the 92-95, 96-00, and 01-05,
