Default cold weather mpg

Hey,

I'm wondering what can be done to improve my 97 Civic DX's cold weather mpg? During the summer months I get around 35 mpg, but during the cold weather months it drops to about 27. The problem is that it doesn't have A/C, so I don't drive it as much when it gets warm.

It's got about 170000 miles, so maybe it's just tired of being cold and ready to retire to Florida.

TIA

well for winter driving i think it drops just due to the heater being on full blast and headlights on more which puts more of a load on the alternator/motor. with my 99 AC on in the summer i get worst milage than in the winter with running just the heat.
tho i did loose alittle more gas milage from having alittle more fun in the snow doing donutes in reverse

i dont think there is much you can do for winter driving to get better milage.... you have to have your headlights and heater on more than in the summer! no way around it really..
plus with a 5speed in the winter its safer to keep the car in gear when slowing down so your loosing that coasting ability to gain milage in the summer. so ya no way to improve it really. sorry. think of it this way.... you could be driving a 4x4 truck at 17mpg.LOL

Um, why is this question coming up in august? It's been +35 celcius this whole month...

But good luck getting better mileage. 17mpg would be awsome in a 4x4 truck, usually it's around 13 lol. Enjoy your 27 and quit yo' whinin'. lol
