I just bought a 98 Civic EX and the CEL came on. I pulled the code and it came up 90, "Evaporative Emission Control System leak detected in the fuel tank area." This sounds like it could just be a leaky gas tank cap but that's probably too optimistic.

Anyway, has anyone had this same problem and if so how did you fix it?? Thx!!

do you have to go thru an emissions test ??
i know here in texas they check the fuel cap.
perhaps can have that tested (??)

 

Yeah I suppose I could do that. I don't know if they will just test your cap for you for free tho. I might just buy a new cap for $8 and reset the ECU.
