Crank Bolt. I cant get it lose

im trying to do a timing belt and i cant get the crank bolt lose to save my life. can someone point me in the right direction. also which was is going to be losen couterclockwise or clockwise?

counterclockwise to loosen. only way i have ever done it was with air tools. what year model car do you have?
