Default Crank no start

Hi I'm new to the Honda game I recently bought a 1996 Honda Civic DX I believe I got a crank but no start strong odor of gas and I don't know if it's any help but I do have a D16 y5 block and I was wondering if anybody can give me any solutions to my problem also I got no spark I've tried to put a timing light on my first plug wire and I have no light

have you removed the distributor cap yet? aside from a timing light can you give us more information on what you have already looked at. if you were doing anything with the car prior to this problem. have you been having any problems up to this point.
instead of writing a novel on start to finish diagnosis a starting point would be better so any other information you can provide will help.

basing my knowledge here off my y8 so im assuming your also has the coil in the cap. have you tested directly off the coil. did the replacement distributor come with a new coil installed or have you been using the original. next up is your ignition control module im unsure which prongs on it are for what or where exactly its located but that can go bad and wont hit the coil for spark. next up is your camshaft and crankshaft position sensors. if those aren't showing the ecm the engine is rotating or its position it wont activate the icm. lastly worst case as im unsure why your on a second distributor, moisture or a failed coil ive heard rumors can feedback to the ecm and fry it. the cam and crank sensors can be tested with an ohm meter or any multimeter with that function. if a piece of metal is passed in close proximity to the face the ohm reading will change.
