Crunchy/Squeaky Clutch Noise
When I move my clutch up and down, depending on the weather and how much I used the car recently, it will have a crunchy feeling/squeak sound to it. I notice this on very humid days or right after it rains… and I get in the car after it has sat for a bit.
With the engine running the clutch feels crunchy/squeaks only when I press it up or down. If I hold it down with the engine running, it doesn’t make a sound – leading me to believe it is not a throw out bearing. Nor does the car make any squeaks when the clutch is up.
The sound is definitely outside the car… possibly coming from the engine bay near the transmission. Is there a spring or anything associated with the slave cylinder?
I know that my clutch master cylinder needs replaced because it does drip a bit of fluid occasionally inside the cabin.
How hard is it to replace the clutch master cylinder/slave cylinder. I figure I’ll buy a kit that has both (close to the same price as the master alone).
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Jim

if its a squeaky kinda sound when u push the clutch pedal in, then it seems to be a very common thing and somthing that dosnt really matter to much. mine does that allllll the time, has been doing so for a long time and it's never given me any kinda troubles but just being annoying from the sound. my dad told me its prolly some spring, tho i dont know what or where this spring is, kinda beginning to think there is no spring but i dunno.
Thanks for your replies... Does anyone know how difficult it is to replace the master/slave cylinder? I have to replace the master soon before it starts leaking anymore than it already does. I figure the kit for both is not much more so I could just replace both.
My Civic only does it when the engine / tranny is still cold - so maybe first 10 mins of driving (depending on temp).. I have 90K on my Civic; my friends' has 130+ and does the same thing.. He never replaced his clutch.
So yes it's an alarming sound, but maybe not that big of a deal really.

i dont think i would do both unless i had to.
did one on a toyota and it was one bear of a job.
have to get down on the gound and work up under the dash.
and then the bleeding part - took a lot of time

Does anyone know if there are any springs or whatnot connected to the slave cylinder that could be causing the squeaking?
It has to be something open to the elements since it doesn't happen unless it is relatively humid out or has rained since the last time I used the car.
