Default CV problem in 1991 civic

Bought a 1991 Honda civic hatchback (dx i think). I bought it knowing there was an issue with the CV. My question, when fixing this problem, should I replace just the joint, or the entire axle, and why?

Thanks.

*edit*

I searched around and there's a company that sells the axle with the joint attached for like $20 more then what autozone charges for just the joint...so i guess im going with them

Swapping the whole axle with a rebuilt one is typically most economical. The outer joint is not field-serviceable other than replacing the boot.
