Exclamation d15b7 short ram help

Hello, I've been on this sitea few times looking on google to try to solve my questions with my 93 civic LX 4 door sedan. I've got a couple answered. now I'm stuck and one hoping somebody could help me. I got the d15b7 (I know its not fast) but i've never had to replace anything on it yet but alternator. goin on about 230k miles. anyways. I got a short ram air intake for $30 on craigslist plus my new gauge cluster and I went to putting it in. I finally got it in. But it makes my exhaust sound very deep at 2-3.5k RPMS to the floor. I've noticed this goin up hill on highway in fifth. the sound almost sounds like a deep v-tec which I no i don't have. and when I drive my car hard to 5.5k rpms it is very loud motor no more exhaust and it sounds like im going to blow it up. I finally put my old one back on and motor is back to normal no deep vtec sounding. If somebody could help me. would be appreciated. I know it was alot to read but I figured i'd explain myself for putting a short ram on my d15b7 when I no its not worth it. but $30 bucks for gauges and it came with figured i'd take it. Thanks much apprecaited.

The main reason why the stock intake is so long and convoluted is to make the car quieter. And the main benefit of putting a short ram on is that the car gets louder so you're supposed to think that it's faster. The intake system has a pulsating airflow which equals noise.

If you were to keep the $30 intake you need to get rid of the cheap air filter, it's just for looks and won't keep dust out of your engine. Replace it with a K&N or something.

alright well i have a 2.5" cat back custom exhaust with a raactive tip. which is a muffler/tip type. no cat so its really loud. and when i put on the air intake it is a vtec kind of sound at low r's to floor. And another really most likely stupid question. is there any harm that can be done putting this on my car? and I heard im suppose to put tin foil or some sort of heat shield around it so it doesnt melt any close wires near the intake? true or false?

^^Relax. Removing the cat converter is technically a federal offense if I am not mistaken. MK and many others are against hearing about people removing the cat, especially when they complain the car becomes too loud. The cat acts as a type of muffler IMO.

You are asking to put a heat shield around your intake? An intake does not create any extra heat. A heat shield for the intake would prevent the air/filter from getting hotter due to the heat within engine bay. Cooler intake temps is better IMO, however, I doubt a "shield" would help much though. Hopefully that answers your question.

Well if you got a cold air intake instead of just a short ram intake then you would be sucking in cooler air since the filter is further away from the engine(from heat). You can still buy an extension for the ram intake to make try and make it a cold air intake...not sure what part you need but do some research.

Everyone has their opinions about people without cats, but it don't really matter because people are gonna do whatever they wanna do to make themselves happy, and not make others happy.
I mean I hate smokers...but why get negative and smart about it when theres not much I can do to change another person's lifestyle?

You expect me to feel OK about your sense of entitlement to emit unnecessary noise and smog? You're certainly not entitled to that.

I think the point is that it is illegal... for a reason. Also, he is posting on a public forum, he should expect to get different views about anything and everything he talks about. If he doesn't like it, he can go elsewhere where he can remove posts he is not a fan of, like facebook or w/e (yuck). Or he can ignore MK, but that is a mistake in itself. MK is probably the only one poster who is really helping anyone with Civic problems (with exception to RONJ, too, but I don't see him on as much as he used to be)

Smoking is not illegal. Although, you are right when you say people will do w/e they want.

The guy comes in and says he removed his cat and now thinks his car is too loud (nevermind the fact that he has a raactive muffler, which is probably garbage sounding in general, but that is just my opinion)
