Dash Warning Lights problem
Hi all,
I have a Civic 1.6 (last model before the new Civic, it has the facelift grill, looks bitlike a Type R).
I have a problem which my dealer is struggling to get to the bottom of, so it would be great to hear from anyone out there withan answer or suggestions.
OK, deep breath, here goes. when driving oncertain sections of certainmotorways at speeds of 70 mph two warning lights appear, theREDHandbrake warning light and the ORANGE ABS warning light. The manual says that if this happens i should stop the car, get out and run away, or something.
It doesn't occur on 'A' Classroads only when I drive at 70 mph or upwards on M-Ways. Drive up the same stretch of motorway at 60 mph = no problem. The stretch of motorway is up a hill, but the lights come on on other, fairly level stretches of motorway. As I use this particular stretch of motorway every day, the lights come on at more or less precisely the same spot. (If you know UK motorways, it is the M62 Pennine crossing at Windy Hill, driving West - East, just as I pass Hollingworth Lake).
the car shows no sign of any problem, and turning the ignition off and on again clears the warning lights. until next time.
The dealers have had the computer on it. At 1st couldn't find anything, then found a code stating some problem like 'a hairline fracture on the teeth' of something (apologies; I am ****ing useless with motors). but investigations show nothing., They have changed the brake pads, fluid levels, removed stomes that were stuck in the disc. Each time the problem returns though. The car is still within warranty. the guys at the garage have suggested that the"ABS computer may be on it's way out" - Car is only 3 years old??
Anyone heard of this as the dealers say its a new one on them, and it rather un-nerves me to the point where i want to trade the thing in and get a different car, if it cannot be resolved. However, there might be someone out there who has seen this before? I've already looked on this forum, and will continue to, for similar reports.
Many thanks for giving this your time.
Ian.
