Default Dashboard Airbag light coming on - dealer says over $1k to fix

Hello,

Lately on my honda civic 2010 GX, the airbag light has been coming on on the dashboard.

I took it to honda, which may have been a mistake, and they said

"REPLACE DRIVER AIRBAG (FOUND CODE 11-40) TESTED, FOUND DRIVER AIRBAG BAD"

It's over $1k to fix it. The thing is, sometimes the light comes on, other times it does not.

Any thoughts as to what I should do? This seems like too much.

A 2010 Civic might be possibly still under warranty. Sometimes the SRS light comes on because the driver's seat belt buckle has a broken chip in it (Honda seatbelts & buckles has a lifetime warr.).

Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply. The car had been in an accident two owners ago, so the warranty was canceled.

I had read about the seatbelt possibility, but I did not understand why they did not consider that today and instead charged me $100 to diagnose the issue.

Since that time today, the light has not come on. It certainly seems like I should not spend $1000 to fix it.

I talked to Honda today and complained that the dealer charged me $100 for this. They said the seatbelt warranty only covers if the seatbelt is functional, not the chip issue.

Sheesh.
