Unhappy Timing/Idle maybe?

What's up everybody? I'm new to this and I can't figure out whats wrong with my car. When I go to start it, it makes a click sound and all the power is gone. I pop the trunk and wiggle the battery cables a few times then it will start. when i pull up to a light and when it idles the car shakes and the rpm's drop like it going to die out. I replaced the battery and this problem still continues. If anyone has any info on what it might be, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks alot.

sounds like you have a ground problem. Start with checking the neg on the battery connection. If good, check the other end of the negative cable to see if it's tight.

You have a loose connection at the battery or maybe at the other end of the cable. Start by taking the terminals off of the battery and clean both the battery post and the terminal down to bare metal. Check that the wire is not corroded. If you have replacement terminals made of lead (stock ones are sheet metal, I think copper) with the little plate with two bolts holding the wire on, that can be a bad connection between the terminal and the wire.

Sometimes the terminals are not properly installed on the post, and though the nut is tight it is a bad connection. To resolve this, loosen the nut completely and spread the terminal open first. Push it all the way down on the battery post. Then tighten it.

Thanks alot for the input. I appreciate it, I'll go fix it right now. It's and auto so what would you suggest could be the reason for the rpm's dropping at idle?

That could also be related to the electrical problem. Get reliable starting first and then see if the other problem is still there.

So i took off the ground and cleaned it. Put it back on and it started fine. i let it warm up and gave it a few rev's and the rpm's stayed just fine. I think that fixed the problem. Thanks alot for your guys's help.
