EG Heater problems
Hey guys, Ive had this problem for a while now and never did much about it but after nearly freezing to death last winter I have no intention on doing so this winter.
Ive got a 94 coupe w/ a d15b2 (w/ minime swap)
its a 5 speed with the power steering and a/c deleted out by a previous owner.
ANYWAY... the cable to and from the heater control to the heater valve out under the hood is missing... (no biggie I'll just open it manually under the hood, I mean really how often do you shut your heat off in the winter) and even after opening the valve I get little to no heat.
Ive switched the T-stat and it doesnt really seem to have done anything.
The temp guage on the car RARELY gets even to the mid marker on the guage. Its almost like the engine isnt heating itself up enough to raise the cars temp guage. I mean it doesnt even get too hot to touch in my opinion.
The system is full on coolant, and the heater core seems not to be clogged (I put a hose to it and it pushed out the other end pretty hard... also doesnt leak inside anywhere that Ive seen)
I'm at a loss of what to think about it now... driving me insane.
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated very much. starting to feel like a moron and losing hope lol

Are the heater hoses getting hot with the valve open? You may need to purge the cooling system. A bubble of air in the engine will stop the heater from working, especially at low rpm.
If the system on the heater box is messed up, the air door may not be switching over to flow through the heater core when you move the dash control to hot. Thus even if the heater core is hot, you won't get much hot air. In other words there are two things the dash hot-cold control does, it moves the air door and opens the valve.

When I open the valve under the hood the both the inlet and outlet from the heater core get warm at best... it never seems to get hot. (Ive actually touched it bare handed and fully expected to get burnt on it only to find that it wasnt really that hot) when i move the air vents (ie: defrost, floor, vent etc) they all seem to work and it shifts the air appropriately but I have not looked up under the dash and got a GOOD look at the set up. I was kinda thinking it had a air bubble somewhere in the system because every once in a while I have to add coolant. Its never leaking that I can see but occastionally it apperas to be low. the entire car bugs me.... I miss my 95 coupe, lol. I'lll see about flushing it out with a hose or something and see if that wont push out any air in the system, thanks for the idea!

Park facing uphill, wait until the engine is cold, and open the radiator cap. Radiator must stay full to the top. It is not sufficient to just check in the white plastic tank. If the radiator isn't full, fill it and then start the engine with the cap off and keep adding to keep it full. Heater valve must be open during this process.
thank you soo much, i dont know how I didnt think of this myself... I guess I was to aggravated to think straight lol.... tried it and had a huge bubble come up in the radiator. I've had the cap off so many times I cannot count it on my fingers and Ive added coolant off and on this time it took a couple of cups (?) more to top it off.... checked it twice now and its been full every time. I'll try the heat when its cold in the a.m. Thanks again!
