Default engine light

I had washed my car yesterday and I had also washed under the hood. i didnt spray it very hard just got it wet and soaped it and sprayed it off. After, when I drove my car, it was kind of cutting out and sputtering and my engine light came on. Is this just a short somewhere in the electricals or what?

You probably got water inside the distributor cap, once it dries out your car should run fine again.

Either that or the ignition wires are breaking down. The insulation has become porous which makes them highly susceptible to water and they need to be replaced.

Take the distributor cap off and look for water inside, leave it off for a day or so to dry out. Also pull the wires out of the spark plug holes and let them dry out. Be sure to put everything back together the same. You might want to take a picture before unplugging anything.
