Check your spark plugs and wires for condition.
When I had a Mercury with automatic transmission, it missed firing and felt like the transmission is skipping. Especially when I was on a high way and try to accelerate. I thought it was transmission but a mechanic who did test drive said he does not think so. He did not say what the cause of it. I later checked ignition wires. They were in bad condition,,,carbon tracks everywhere.
There was no problem after changing plugs and wires.

i had a hundai accent. and 3 of the spark plug wires were conecting with each other and glowing my engine. bad stuf. change the wire and get some good plugs. that sould help you.
the plugs and wires are a great place to start. also check inside your distributor cap for oil. i have a little bit of a leak in my distributor and my car misses at lower rpms like that too
