I went in for an oil change and therefore pressed some buttons to reset the service indicator lights, and at the same time unknowingly switched the odometer from miles to kilometers. So I got worried that a malfunction had added 52k miles to my car. 85241 miles had switched to 137241 kilometers, so, being a math wizard, I suspected malfunction because a kilometers number could not possibly end with the same "241" as my miles number that I drove into the shop with.

A while later I got smarter and switched from Kilometers back to Miles, and the odometer changed back to 85241, which proves that the car is using a slightly incorrect conversion factor of 0.622104 instead of the correct factor of 0.621371.

There you have it.

 

I guess the moral of the story is to keep it km or miles but don't change b/c Honda engineers are not capable of programming a simple unit conversion...
