Default estimated head gasket for a honda?

I have a 1991 Honda Civic, and i believe that the head gasket is blown. I am just curious to know what is a good estimate of the cost to fix this problem. I know nothing about cars, and i dont really want to get screwed over by a mechanic on the cost.

Probably somewhere around $700 or so. Call around your area for good quotes, but only go to a reputable shop, no matter how cheap the questionable shops are.

Well since there are other things like the timing belt that should be replaced at the same time.Probably more than the car is worth.

you cant put a price on what a car is worth....my car is worth like next to nothing but I love it! A head gasket is only 53$ and i believe it's quoted as a 3hour job (even though it shouldnt take that long) I can ask a tech today at work (Honda) and ask them how long/what it costs

well thats why cheap vehicles sell dirt cheap with problems like this. most people dont want to spend the money to have it fixed, but the DIY guy says hell ya and just invests his time and work.
hell if i paid someone to do all the work to my civics well hell i wouldnt have 1/4 the work done!

If the head gasket is being replaced because the engine had severely overheated, then replacing the head gasket may not be a sound investment. Severe overheating typically destroys the engine to the point that it must be discarded and replaced.
