Default exhaust manifold nuts? one time use?

hi,

so i've decided to take apart my exhaust manifold. I heard that the nuts that hold the exhuast manifold to the head are one time use. what does this mean? does that mean if i take the nuts off just to examine the exhaust manifold that i will HAVE TO replace them?

That's incorrect.. you can re-use them.

thanks for the reply..the reason why i am examining the exhaust manifold is because i've noticed that when i start my car it sort of does this loud rush of air noise like SHOOOM and then it runs just fine. Is this the sign of something wrong with the exhaust manifold? the manifold gasket? I took a peek at the manifold and it looks kinda brown/rusted...i didn't take it off all the way to inspect it tho

To check for exhaust leaks, idle the engine and have someone block the tailpipe with a rag while you listen under the hood and/or under the car. As the pressure builds up, any holes in the system will make a hissing noise.
