I used to have the same problem with my 1973 Honda CB 350 project bike - I got one of these

What year civic are you working on? Most civic's have 2 screws that hold the rotor on to the hub. They can be a pain in the *** to get off. If you can not unscrew them you will prob have to drill them out or try using a right hand drill bit to get a better bight on them.

Yes, the caliper bracket sort of wraps around the rotor. The bracket needs to be removed to get the rotor off. You can also remove the bracket with caliper and pads still attached. But replace pads too, never run used pads on a new rotor.

Well didn't get to post pics because it was getting dark by the time I got home and got started. But this was easier than I expected. The retaining screws were an absolute b*tch to get out and those old rotors even took a good bit of persuasion to get off the lugs but the new ones are on and my brakes feel better than ever!
Thanks ya'll for the pieces of advice. BTW, those impact drivers are awesome. Totally worth the $20 at advance auto.
