Default Fuel Gauge

i have a 99 ex coupe...

Is the fuel gauge supposed to lower to E when i turn my car off? My gauge constantly stays on the current level of gasoline regardless if the car is turned on or not.

Also i think my gauge is inaccurate. Sometimes when i have about an 8th (maybe a little more) of gas showing on the gauge, my car starts to choke when i try and start it. if there is just a little less then a quarter tank this shouldnt be an issue, so im starting to think that the fuel gauge is wrong. Any thoughts?

It is normal for the gas gauge to stay at the current level when the car is turned off, my civic does the same. As for the "choking" on a low fuel start that is not uncommon. I found that if you turn on the ignition just so the fuel pump kicks in for a couple of seconds before starting on a low fuel, it will start no problem. Hope this helps.

i normally dont let it get low on fuel, but when i have, it is harder to start.
