ok so i've just wired some LED strips for my gauges. I soldered the wire onto the bulb connectors. Now my gas/fuel gauge is broken. The temperature, tach and the speedo works fine only the gas gauge is broken. The gas gauge needle is staying at full and i know for sure its not full in gas. I've checked the solder and it is not where it is not suppose to be. I've tried moving the needle slowly to empty and turned on my car and it keeps going back up to full slowly. It worked perfectly fine before Idid the LEDs. Is there anything i can do find the problem or do some kind of reset or troubleshoot?

what was your gas level before the led install?

 

it was at a little below 3/4 full. I filled up again about the distance i've driven it should be between 3/4 and 1/2

 

Probably something is miswired and you have the gauge input shorted to ground. This will cause it to show full all the time. Look at the back of the cluster follow the printed wires from the 3 screws for the fuel gauge (also make sure the screws are secure, they make the electrical connection to the gauge). Two of the wires (power and ground) are common with the temperature gauge and the third goes off by itself to the plug to the car. That third one should be connected to nothing else.

To be sure it's the gauge or the wiring-- take the back seat out and unplug the sender on the tank. Turn the key on and expect it to go to empty. If it does show empty when unplugged, the sender is bad or the tank really is full. (Also, never move the pointer by hand).

i think i might just go ahead and order that green connector sheet. i hope that its some wiring back there. theres a part that i think might be the problem.

and if you ever solder led's in dont pull the wiring up just solder them like this

 

they were originally soldered like that. I pulled it up to get a better look. I am hoping that that area is the problem. I need to figure out my gauge is not broken though. Where is the sender unit in the back seat? where is the plug to unplug?

the fuel gauge needle isn't even moving now. should i still go ahead and order the circuit board print?

 

so i just got that circuit board today. installed it without soldering on the wiring for the lights. so just the screws and plugged the thing in. now the temperature is all the way up and the gas is not moving at all. what seems to be the problem now?
