Default Fuel guage not working... PLEASE HELP

My fuel guage hasn't been working since I bought my car. I've just been clocking my odometer and filling up every 200mi. or so. I'm fairly sure that my guage cluster is not broken because when I park on a hill with the front of the car on the down slope, the guage will show a reading if I leave it to sit for a while. Is there a way to fix my fuel reader... is it pump related or what? I'm just wondering if there is anyway to fix this without spending a bunch of cash...

i had an 84 ranger and an 84 broncoII with the same problem. with those, it was very expensive because you had to drop the fuel tank and replace the thing inside of it that measured how much fuel was in the tank.... i'm not sure on civics though

On a Civic, it's easy. Simply take the bottom cushion of the back seat out and open an access panel and the top of the fuel tank is right there, where the pump and gauge are mounted. So I'd do that and find the fuel gauge wire. When that wire is grounded the gauge should go up to full, proving the cluster is OK. If that's the case, remove the sender from the tank and inspect, repair or replace it.

Awesome, thanks alot man. And yea, the guage isn't broken, it's been stuck on full since I first filled it up! lol. I bought it and assumed the tank was near empty, drove it up the street and filled it to full, then it never went back down again... lol.

When it reads full all the time, unplug the wire on the tank and turn the key on and it should go to empty.
