Default Is This a Good Deal for a Jack and Stands?

From some past threads, it sounds like Pep Boys is not a good place to go, but I saw these deals. I'm thinking about getting the 3-ton jack combo. Any recommendations?

from Pep Boys online circular:

Torin™ Big Red Jacks® Garage-To-Go
Kit includes: 36” creeper. 2-ton trolley jack. Two 2-ton double locking jack stands.
$34.99 regular price - $5.00 mail-in rebate = $29.99 kit after mail-in rebate (thru Jan 13)

Torin™ Big Red Jacks® 2-Ton Chrome Trolley Jack & Jack Stand Combo
All chrome finish. With jack and jack stands. (thru Feb 3)

Torin™ Big Red Jacks® 3-Ton Jack Combo
Includes 3-ton jack, 3-ton jack stands, and creeper. A great set for any do-it-yourselfer!
$59.00 reg. price - $10.00 mail-in rebate = $49 combo after mail-in rebate (thru Jan 13)

I've heard Sears Craftsman being recommended and their jack stands are only about $20, but the only online deals for a jack were part of a combo set that was over $100. Maybe another option is to find a good deal for a jack (~$30) and then get the Craftsman jack stands for $20.

Any advice or experience with Torin or Craftsman?

the Big Red stuff is fine, Craftsman is fine, there's nothing wrong with Pep Boys, and I wouldn't buy that stuff online unless you had free shipping

yeah, i definitely won't order it online. i can't imagine what the shipping costs would be. right now, i'm waiting for my discover card cashback bonus cards for use at pep boys. it's a pretty good deal because you get a $25 gift card for $20 in cashback bonus. so for $60, i'll be getting $75 in pep boys cards.

well i finally got a jack and some jack stands. because my other car is a maxima (4200+ lbs), i decided not to go with any 2 ton jacks and the 3 ton jack special at pep boys was gone. i thought about just using a 2 ton jack and stands for my maxima, but i decided against it. luckily, a set of 2-1/4 ton jack stands and a 2-1/4 ton jack just went on sale at sears.com. 4500 lbs is perfect for my two cars. the sale goes until 1/20/07 and the cost is $39.99. i think it's a pretty good deal considering i ordered it online and got the 5 min in-store pickup. it was pretty easy to do. here's a photo.

I bought the exact same set as the Craftsman but these are Advanced Auto's version, Pro Lift. The floor jack is 2 1/2 ton, and its easy to operate, the jack stands were 20 bucks for the set, 25 for the jack. But my jack stands are for SuV's also so I can work on her vehicle.

So 45 total for the set, not that bad.

Jack stands start around 18 bucks and up, Good jacks around 25 and up, I wouldn't advise one of those bottle jacks, they blow.

Unfortunately the set didn't come with a carrying case. I guess they got rid of that part of the set. Now I should probably get some wheel chocks.
