Default Hard brakes on 2009 Civic

It seems that I need to press hard on the brakes of my 2009 Civic LX to get them to slow the car. Im not used to having to do this on other cars with power brakes. The brakes do work, but you have to press on the pedal harder than normal. Is this typical for a Civic or can there be something wrong?

sounds like you need to bleed your brakes.

I know this is a relativity new car but have you checked the thickness on your brake pads yet?
