have UK civics got restirctors
hey just a general question i have a civic es 1.6i vtec auto hatchback 1996 model (stock)
took it for a track run the other day and i was flat out down the end straight and the car seemed very restricted top end it hit about 115mph max with a slight down hill i know it sounds stupid but i thought it would be abit faster as its a 1.6 16v vtec and a small and light car? so are there any governers or restrictors built into the car if so coudl u tell me where and how i can remove it lol!

yeah i would say so also, hate to admit it but thats just how UK spec honda's are...i also have a 1.6esi SOHC vtec engine honda car but i managed to hit 120mph without hitting top end meaning i havn't pushed it all the way but considering mines a manual i would of thought thats it.....even a 1.2 renault clio can hit 120mph no probs so why a honda struggling for?
i got a few pics of my honda so check it out but i really wished UK spec cars have the option to limit themselves or not uuing a much easier method rather than modifying the ECU chip voiding your warranty (i think) doesn't really give a "honda" when you buy it from the UK, just maybe giving you 3/4 of it.

just a side note: how much are these "track runs" in the UK and which is the nearest one from London? would like to test out my honda some day.....thanks in advance!

THIS IS BS AND MIS-INFOMATION! UK Honda's are not restricted to 115mph, only jdm imports are subject to this, So I would have a proper look at your car to see if its jdm.
And Ksoma the reason your car is struggling at 120 mph is that it is very close to the ESI's top speed of 125mph, try shifting out of 4th later and you should get there. Remember the more mod's you do the quicker it will get at top end because it wont be running out of breath. As for a 1.2 clio doing 120mph?? Only if it was fired from a very large cannon, believe me I used to own one.

Check your log book, Or check engine code on front of the block, It will have a letter rather than a number as the last didgit if its jdm.
Also is the speedo in kph? but that is an easy change so doesnt prove it either way, Has it been undersealed? Does it have A/C? most jdm honda's do.
Two more, does it have a seperate rear fog light and a smaller square rear reg plate than normal civic's ? Get busy now.

sorry for the mis-leading information UK civhead i assumed it was like that here in the UK as i heard that some cars UK spec models are slower than their import counter parts only to abide by law and smaller roads to drive on here in the UK and yeah ok maybe a clio may not go as fast as 120 but im sure it can easily hit 100 without any problems?
i can admit that i honestly don't know that much about honda's let alone cars but may i ask a small question that is it true the higher the mileage the more the car looses its power? does this also effect top end speed aswell? this may have also effected my car aswell or even benfredjosh's civic aswell.
my knowledge is as big as i learn new things from people more knowledgable than me and thats how i learn from receiving advice and information from people like you UK civhead, without people like you UK civhead i wouldn't have learnt anything about honda's or even automotive by myself!

is it true the higher the mileage the more the car looses its power?
Example 1, Say your civic has 120,000 miles on it, it has been used everyday on motorways to drive a 100 mile round trip to work and that is all, it has never been driven hard from cold, never been used for 2 min trips down to the shops therefore not warming properly, and always has regular services.
Example 2, Say your civic has 60,000 miles on it, it hasnt done much motorway driving therefore it has lower milage, it gets driven hard from cold,it always get's used for short trips when the engine is not warmed up properly, unlike long motorway driving were less wear is put on the engine as it is warm. Finally it does not recieve regular services, new oil etc...
So what im trying to say is that more mileage is not always a bad thing if the car has been looked after and has high mileage due to excessive motorway driving. I would take example 1 over example 2 any day.
