Default HELP!!! HX wont start!!!!!!!

So i came home last night around 6pm. Turned my 99 Civic HX off and went inside. 30 miuntes later I needed to leave again so I went into the car and it wouldnt start. Radio works fine, light, engine lights all turn on. but engine wont start. there is no cranking. i do hear a very very slight humming when I turn the key but other than that nothing. the battery connections both are firm. i tried jump starting but as I suspected that did nothing. also, on the left side of the dash there is the light dimmer **** and immediatly to its left is what on most other civic models is the cruise control button. On my HX there is no button instead there is a portruding light which now flashes red, even when car is off. this light had turned solid red a couple weeks back, even when car was off. does anyone know what this is for? my neighbor thinks it might have something to do with the security system but the hx models dont have stock security or keyless entry as far as I know. and even if it did I never used anyhing besides key to lock/unlock car.

If you are not the first owner, the previous one may have installed a security system with a kill switch. You may need to trace wires from the red light to figure it out.

Since you don't have a remote and only used a key to lock and unlock your doors, you may want to look for a valet switch. A valet switch is used to disable an alarm. I would get a wiring diagram for your car before you want to dig into your wiring. Another option is to ask a tech at a stereo/alarm shop to see which wires they would use to disablethe start mode when they install an alarm.

Your 99 HX has cruise control? - My manual 99 HX doesn't!

If the problem is your starter Accel has an Ultra Light Starter for it!
