Smile help with a timing belt 88 civic/ engine

Ok, so were driving down the road about 50mph and the belt breaks. i have the end of the engine opened up down to the pulley on the bottom which is said to be a chore to get off. my question is this car is not worth much granted but what percentage is there that the valves etc. are toast in your opinions? cam will turn with a driver and engine moves. i think it is the standard is it 1.8 l engine with about 160000 miles on it. am i wasting my time?

you should be ok.. what model is the civic.
best way to tell is get a new belt and put it in time and try, if its bad then take belt off and return(clean) and try to find a new head.
