The jumping tach readings hint that the ICM in the distributor may be bad. Pull it out and take it to an auto parts store for testing.

I missed this in your last post. For the test I suggested, you need to unplug the upper (primary) not lower (secondary) O2 sensor (see diagram below). If unplugging primary O2 sensor doesn't help, then test the ICM.

The ICM is located inside the distributor right? My distributor is brand new, and I actually tried both O2 sensors, unplugged one, plugged it back in, and then unplugged the other while driving the car inbetween.

sooo, I tracked down my 2 spare PCM's, I plugged in the first one, fast idle picked up to a little over 2k rpms, then t started surging, ran like crap, and wanted to stall. I unplugged that PCM, and plugged in another one I had, I was able to take the car out for a drive for over 20 minutes, rpms were holding steady, it would rev as high as I wanted to go with it; It wasnt running great, but better than before, seemed to bog a little bit and didnt have full power but if I tried to cruise at a steady speed it would kinda lurch when I got on the gas, or let off the gas, no matter how gently or slowly I pressed the throttle it would do this lurch thing on me. Now Im really confused, 1 out of 3 PCM's gives totally different results, and I had this lurching problem once before, I replaced the throttle body to solve it. I'm baffled now, anyone got any suggestions?

Are all three ECUs identical or are they different types?

My apologies. When I read your first post, I thought the engine was only throwing misfire codes. You actually only have one misfire code (P0301) for cylinder 1, a MAP sensor code (P0107), and a fuel system code (P0172 = running rich). All have the potential to make the engine run poorly.

If the ECU that allows your engine to run best is also a match for your engine, then clear the ECU, run the engine, and then pull the codes again. Do all the same CEL codes repeat?

By the way, click CEL link in my signature to learn how to pull codes without a scan tool.
