HO2S Oxygen Sensor Replacement

the manual says you need a special wrench to remove, is this true?

It's more of a special socket to put on your wrench/ratchet. I had to use one. Go to Autozone. They sell a whole set for 15 dollars. Actually I think you can rent the set from them and if you keep it you lose the 15 dollars, and if you return it you get your money back.
