Question

Okay guys new problem, fixed the idle problem, Now its a d16z6 motor, It just shuts off while driving, no sputter but it does sound like a low pop, like a grumble after the engine dies. Theres no warning. Happens whether or not the engine is hot too.

i am having the same problem with my 93 1.6 civic.the dealer ship had told me that it was the fast idle valve without even seeing the car.i did some research and had found out that you can remove the fast idle valve and install a plate.you dont even use the fast idle valve.but what i dont understand is what do you do with the hose that comes from the fast idle valve.

If your winter weather is routinely below freezing, you probably want to keep the fast idle valve.

The hoses contain radiator coolant to warm up the valve. After removing the valve remove the two hoses and put on one long one between the two points on the car, bypassing where the valve was.

Also check the IAC valve and the PCV valve. Both of them can cause a surging idle when they go bad.
