Default Honda technicians, is this true?

Any truth to using 10w30 in our manual transmissions? I hear that's what's recommended/used. Is this for real?

This is a very old debate. Honda Transmission Fluid is recommended for honda transmissions, that's all i'm going to state. There is a difference in automatic and manual transmission fluid.

It works. Honda MTF is recommended though.

10W40 motor oil (not 10W30) is OK by Honda for manual transmissions. It's listed in the owner's manual.

Do not use 10W40 in the engine.

I concur. the last time a shop, I trust, changed the MTF fluid while doing the timing belt also told me that according to Honda specs, 10W-40 was sufficient.

I always buy the Honda MTF. Why bother about the price difference when you only need to replace it about once a year.

Honda MTF has some special detergents or something in it that help to prolong the life of the various parts of the transmission.
