so i finall got the b16b running in my civic. problem though, at anything above idle the timing belt is just loose as hell. so my question is as stated above...what is the proper technique for tightening a timing belt. i have search and found how to change a timing belt, but not how to tighten it. thanks guys.


p.s. in the next few days i will be scanning and posting all of the info i have found out about this swap. i.e. pinouts, sensor locations, wiring diagrams, what fits and what dosnt fit a b16b. so hopefully that will help out a bunch of you guys on here. will post pics soon too

Make sure you have the spring attached to the tension roller assembly. Loosen the center bolt on the tension roller so it can move, but not sloppy loose. Turn the crank BY HAND a few turns counterclockwise, the direction it normally runs. This will let the spring move the roller to take the slack out of the belt. While holding the crank turned so the side of the belt without the tensioner stays taut, tighten the tensioner bolt.

 

sweet thanks, ill give it a shot. cant wait to take it for a sping. fifteen grand in parts plus four for the engine and 2 years later, it better do something really cool or im gonna be pissed

 

The manual says to rotate the crankshaft CCW 3 teeth on the camshaft. As you turn the crankshaft, you should feel the tension going up.
