how to fix a slipping transmission or is it toasted period? 1997 civic lx sedan
Auto transmissions going out 120K+ shouldn't really be all that surprising. Sure, there are plenty of Honda A/T that go for 200k, but 151k is right in the area you would see A/T failing. I purchased my A/T '97 Civic at 120k and expect to get about 3 years out of it (10-15k miles a year), so that puts it at right around 165,000.
It is just the nature of automatic transmissions. There are plenty of cars (like my old Ford Probe) that are almost guaranteed to have the transmission go out between 80k and 120k (mine went out at 93k).
