How Often To Change Timing Belt?
You should probably change them both at the same time, because they are basically in the same spot. Im not sure which is more expensive, but I'm pretty sure the water pump would be harder by itself because you gotta take off the timing belt to get to it. That's why you change them at the same time.
ok I'm getting it taken care of. I need to know what to tell the mechanic...am I getting the Timing Belt and Water Pump Belt changed? Or am I getting the Timing Belt and Water Pump change...is there a difference..what do I tell him?
when i had mine done, on my 93 i bought it w/ a 88k so had it changed w/ in a week, i had all the seals replaced, water pump, all belts, coolant flush and of course an oil change total for parts from a honda dealership was about $350 then it cost me about $200 to have it all installed. but heres the catch i worked at a cadilac dealership so the parts were at wholesale, and i had a mechanic to install everything afterhours so the job turned out to be pretty cheap on my pocket.
but back to the point GIT-R-DUN.

Right now here's what I'm having done Sacicons.
I told him that I need a new Timing Belt Put in.
Should I specify anything with the timing belt? Should I tell him that I want an official Honda Timing Belt? Etc.?
I told him that I want the Water Pump Changed. Should I specify anything about the Water Pump?
I'm also telling him to check the tranny mount for any problems.
1.) Now what is a tentioner pulley and do you think he would install that anyways with the 2 things I'm getting done.
2.) What about the Water Pump Belt. Is that recomended to get that changed when changing the Water Pump..or will it get changed with the water pump being changed. Or is there no such thing as a water pump belt? I'm confused.
and:
3.) Will you please read this thread Sacicons...I need your help badly!:

thanks anyone who can help me out!

dude first off do you trust the mechanic? second of all, he should be able to tell you if you have any other problems, or if anything else should be done when you change the timing belt, but thats also where the first part of this comes into play, do you trust him b/c he can F>CK YOU bad so make sure that YOU know what your doing before you take it to him. personally i would call a honda dealership and ask a service tech what alll gets done to a car when you change the timing belt thats just my 2 cents.
Well...if he changes the water pump...will he change the water pump belt too? Do they go hand in hand..this is agrivating me to hell..
I just bought this used car..it has 79000 miles on it. I got the transmission fluid flushed out and changed...all the filters changed...oil changed..put in synthetic oil..tires alligned and balanced..
Now I was told that it's a good idea to get the timing belt changed. I'm going to get the timing belt and water pump changed and have my transmission checked.
what else is there to do?

ok, just to help clear it up a little. The timing belt should be done at or before 100000km according to the honda manual. The timing belt also runs the water pump which is behind the belt and requires the belt to be taken off for replacement. If the pump is leaking or you suspect it to be bad (ie no coolant or the bearings wobbly), change it because the cost of the pump is much less than to do it later. Also get your cam seal, crank seal, and belt tensioner bearings checked. Again, if you can trust your mechanic, he will know once the timing cover is off. Have fun
