Default How to read codes???

Hey my check engine light is on and the car is spudering! Not a big deal and Im sure I can fix it but Im new to this whole Import thing. I rebuit my whole Z24 Turbo Cavy but under the hood of my civic is greek to me! Can anyone tell me how to get the trouble codes out of it? In the Z24 I just stick a paper clip in in plug under the steering wheel and turn the key, but I cant seem to find a plug like that in the 88 Civic. Can someone PLEASE help. Thanks so much!

Default RE: How to read codes???

Thanks for asking it forced me to do some research I wanted to know. It's in the Chilton Manual.

Your ECU is located below the dash under the carpet on the passenger side. It has a self diagnosis LED light that blinks

0-ECU
1-Oxygen content
3 or 5-Manifold Absolute Pressure
4-Crank Angle
6-Coolant Temp
7-Throttle Angle
8-TDC Position
9-No. 1 cylinder position (1.6l)
10-Intake Air Temperature
12-Exhaust Gas Recirculation system (1.5l CAL: A/T)
13-Atmospheric Pressure
14-Electronic Air Control
15-Ignition output signal
16-Fuel Injector
17-Vehicle Speed Sensor
19-Lock-Up Control Solenoid Valve (A/T)
20-Electric Load

If codes other than listed, count blinks again. If still the same try a known good ECU. If indication goes away replace ECU also check electrical connections...........The LED is a single light and you will have to count the blinks to get the code. This info is for 88-91 civics.
