Default hydrolock...need info/help asap

ok today on the way to work, i went through a very large puddle, they are doing construction and the road is flooded so i couldnt miss it. i was only going maybe 10 and just got through and it sputtered for a second and cut off, wouldnt start again. i have a cai on the car so yeah...

i guess im trying to figure out what happens inside the motor and if it is worth fixing or get a new motor. i have a 98 ex with stock motor, i believe thats the d16y8 if i remember right, any help would be great, have to get the car back on the road asap, cant afford to miss work for to long, thanks in advance

and i never thought in a million years that this would happen to me, im going to complain at the town hall tomorrow and see if i can get them to do anything but a friend that works for a law firm, a newbie at it, said that its an act of nature and even thought they are doing construction they probably wont be able to do anything to help me but im still f**king mad so im going to try

You're going to try to sue them?

Honestly, it's your fault for driving through the puddle. You should have had better judgement.
The government isn't there to keep you protected from every little thing. Sometimes you have to think for yourself.

What happens is that if the engine sucks in (too much... i say "too much" because if it's only a little it'll turn to vapor and be fine) water, the piston cannot compress the liquid and the engine gets locked up.

well there is no way around this puddle, so i had to either go through it or turn around and get back on the highway and take the next exit and come in from the other side of town, i thought about it but had to get to work, well now i skipped work anyways so i guess i wont do that again and im getting rid of that cai as soon as i get a new motor or fix this one i guess

and i know kinda what happen in the motor but it is possible the head just needs rebuilt or do the connecting rods always bend when this happens? i know they usally do, is it worth it to look into even or just get a new motor?

and im not really going to try to sue them but im sure going to complain, every time it rains this happens and they are doing the construction on like 3 miles of this road and the parts they finished already still does this even. this problem is why they are doing the construction in the first place, in the winter the roads are all ice and then they get ruined every year. i have tryed coming in from the other side of town because that side of the town is higher and it happens over there to but not as bad but it take about 20 mins longer to get to work that way and with a 45 minute ride it kinda sucks

Well I live in FL, flooding is no stranger to me. If it's too deep, I just go around, even if it adds 10-15 minutes to my trip. It's what you gotta do.

The road that my subdivision is on floods in multiple places every time it rains hard.

well i found out today that one other person had the same thing happen to them today and one other person had issues after going through the puddle. this is the first time in a while that we have had this much rain and it never floods this bad so me and the other guy that this happened to are going to the town hall tomorrow to just make a formal complaint. the other person that just had "sputtering" isnt really concerned but her car still runs lol

as for the motor problem, im swaping in a b18a1 that i have sitting around, was looking for a obd1 car to put it in but since i have it and need my car to run, its going in, already started and it should be in by tomorrow and have to wait for the hydro to cable conversion and a obd2 to 1 harness, simple as that...im hoping lol
