Default I finally fixed my sunroof...

A couple years ago I posted on here (under the name bkhobbs) about my 98 civic having sporadic problems shutting the sunroof, it'd alway open fine but wouldn't shut half the time. Well, fastforwardto now and it doesn't EVER shut and it's time to sell my baby. I tried replacing the switch but that wasn't it (now i've got an extra). I pulled outthe lower part of the dash under the steering wheel and found the relays. There's two relays there, one that is for the foward movement and one thats for reverse. I replaced the foward one but that wasn't it, so I've spent the last few days ripping my hair out thinking aboutand looking for the problem. Then I had a moment of clarity, those two relays work together, when one switches on the other has to switch off, so I swapped the two and suddenly it shut fine but wouldn't open, I already had an extra one I bought at Honda so I put that in($26) and now she's fully operational again! I can only hope that this helps someone out there...

Hey thanks for posting about your sunroof I recently purchased a 1997 Honda Civic EX Coupe and the Sunroof is stuck open slightly (enough to be annoying. Was gonna seal it up but would perfer to fix it so it works. I have a Haynes manual but it doesn't say anything about the sunroof or trouble shooting it. Perhaps you could describe in more detail where the relays are in the underdash? and perhaps how you got at them. I don't know if you can get pictures but any information will be helpful.

Thanks for your time.

Yeah, I have the same manual and it wasn't helpful at all, even the electronics schematics don't show anything. In my case I had to take off the part of the dash under the steering wheel, it was something like 4 screws. With that off you can plug your sunroof switch back in (cause you have unclip it and the power mirror switch to get the dash off.) There are two sunroof relays (gray boxes about 1 inch square) you'll hear them click when you push your sunroof switch back and forth. They're mounted somewhat to the left of the fuse box, I'm pretty sure you can follow the wires to find them, be careful when you're down there cause I accidently pulled a plug that goes into the fuse box and didn't see it, all the sudden my sunroof didnt work at all. Hope that helps.

I have an extra, it's for a 96-2000 (i'll sell it to you for a $10 plus shipping), you could just pop the switch out and short the wires yourself, that'd test the switch pretty easily.
