I think I may need new motor
I have a 91 honda civic dx sedan.. My brother told me that the motor is shot.. wheres some good web sites with the stock motor pricing, and also What would be the easyest and the cheapest swap available motor for this car.. I'm very new to the hole honda area but I know some things about building motors ect ect.. any help would be greatful..
well first off welcome to HCF, and second the easiest swap would be the stock d15b2 motor (i believe thats what it had); just pull the old one and drop in the new(er) one. it would all be plug and play. I usually try local junk yards... and if nothing there, i go for online. Just remember to look at shipping if you do go online. Also, what makes you think that the motor is shot?
Oh just curious, I know DOHC are a lot better, plus V-Tech would be nice.. would getting one of these type motors require new motor mounts, wiring harness ect ect to get it to work, or do the motor still fit in just a few wires swaps and ecu and run??
When you get an engine rebuilt (not a cheap rebuilt, a real rebuilt) you know it's all good, and you know it will last. And it usually comes with a warranty, something more than "break light warranty"...
well honostly if I did a rebuild I would do it myself,, plus my brother has rebuild some 4G63 "eclipse" motors for the drag strip so we have the knowledge to do it are selfs but not the time.. its much easyer for us to ripped out the motor and slap a new one in one day.. Just wanted to see what type of engines I could work with before doing it.. I think I might just go with the d15B2 motor since it has 92 instead of 70sum HP.. and about the same pricing.. Thanks again guys
If yours overheated seriously the head or block may be cracked and warped and not rebuildable. You should have a D15B2 now. If you can't find one of those you can also use a D15B7 from a later model. It's basically the same engine so it won't have any more power, but it does bolt right in with changing a few parts on the outside. I have one in my '91 DX
Always best to shop local for a used engine, there are a lot of people selling absolute junk on the Internet knowing you're too far away to bother to do anything about it.
