Idle or fuel issues with stalling
@ Bonnie: nope, I have an LX, with the D16Y7 engine. The idle got real low several times while it was on its warm up period, and over time, the problem got worse. After it warmed up, it would barely run.
@ Inarthur: did you try the coil? Have you had the car diagnosed? You really need to see what kind of output is occurring on the electrical side in real time. Makes problem solving very easy after that.

The car runs great starts up inthe morning great idles at 1000 when cold then when warm she idles at 500 seems like to low no hesitation brought her to the dealer they said there is no codes and could be the idle control valve without any codes cannot determine this and that is 600 bucks and cannot confirm if this the problem . Is this vavle easy to change and where is it Thanks
I have tried all the things that you did, I bought a new set of coils from honda and changed it ....non of it has solved my problem.
I took it to honda and all the came up with was O2 sensor code. I changed both sensors and also replaced the whole catalytic converter.
This is what I have done so far.
1. I went to Honda dealer Ed-voyles honda and got a diagnosis
they told me the code was O2 sensor and it could also be the Catalytic converter
2. I changed both O2 sensors as well as the whole catalytic converter but the problem was not solved.
3. I came to this forum to find possible causes of this problem... and since then I have changed the following based on what I read here
a)I changed the Fuel filter and checked the fuel pump to make sure its working (and it does works fine) I switched the gas from regular to premium and put in engine cleaning fluid in there and tried to run the car for a while
b) I took apart the air intake manifold and cleaned the whole system and tried to test the throttle position sensor as well
c) I have changed the ignition switch with brand new one from honda
d) I have changed the ignition coils with brand new ones from honda
e) I have put in brand new iridium spark plugs
f) I have changed the thermostat
g) I have changed the engine coolant temperature sensor
h) I have changed the main relay (three relays under the glove compartment- 1 blue= fuel relay, 2 brown =engine relay 3 black = ??)
i) I found the connection to the alternator was broken and loosened, so I got a new connection plug, but unfortunately found the alternator was bad. I have replaced the alternator ($170 total) and thought that would fix the problem, but unfortunately the problem persist. This past sunday June 26, I was driving on the Highway going about 65mpg and about 30min into my drive the car dropped from 65mpg to 10mpg and would not pull even with the peddle pressed all the way to the floor....
Please someone help me. Please am spending too much and still no solution please please if you know a good mechanic in the metro atlanta area please let me know.
@ Atlantahonda, Who was your mechanic in atlanta?

The CEL did not come on when it would only go 10 mph? Does your CEL work for the bulb test (turn key on but don't start)? Is it on or off when driving?
A sudden serious stall out or running problem I'd suspect the crank sensor. It synchronizes the sparks and fuel to the engine, very fundamental to making it run at all. Yes it's another part to replace on a whim though.
You should check fuel pressure with a gauge and also disconnect the fuel line put it into a container and make sure you have a good flow (Disconnect small wire at starter, have someone turn the key to start position). If it just trickles, the pump could be weak.

Arthur where is the idle control valve is that hard to change and is there a test that I can do also. Thanks. Dealers will only change it if the car throws a code and if they change it they cannot guarantee that is the problem any help thanks I have a98 hx civic
@ Bonnie: YouTube - ‪How To Solve Honda Idle Problems‬‏
Costs anywhere from $120-$160 for a new part, but maybe urs is just gunked up and needs cleaned. Also recommended is making sure ur coolant is filled properly in ur system before u replace this. I like that the car guy says smack it with a screwdriver handle as a diagnosis, lol, to see if it is stuck.
@Arthur: The Wright Import Service Center|Auto Repair|Cumming, GA| (770) 888-0100 For $45, they diagnosed the problem accurately and I was able to fix it from there.

Why do you have to make sure the coolant is full befor you change it and also is it hard to change I asked the dealer they said 600 bucks and they can't even guarentee thats the problem She just idles low but if its easy to change Ill do it my self
Bonnie, you should try cleaning the IACV first. Also clean the air passages in the manifold where it attaches. Usually they are just clogged up with black gunk and don't actually need replacing.
"Idling low" means the engine is shaking and stalling or nearly so. Don't trust the dash tach to measure idle speed accurately.
